Repairs:
Unit dismantled down to main chassis, cleaned. Aluminum side castings filed and sanded to remove corrosion, finish effort could be a bit better. Back panel scotch-brighted. Some spots of aluminum oxide between two front panels, scotch-brighted. Paint on front panel removed, sanded to brushed aluminum finish (should repaint). Numerous corroded nuts and lockwashers replaced.
Old-style power supply connector replaced with IEC standard.
Slight rust around capstan bearings. Covers popped and regreased with lithium grease.
Unit functions from front panel but does not respond to the control signal (J2-AA taken to GND). Transistor on board A2 (4-071 fed from A2-20 and A2-T via two diodes) has bad BE junction. Replaced with 2N4400. Unit functional.
Somewhat rusty steel top and bottom covers replaced with aluminum covers from other junked HP equipment (significant weight reduction). |
